Can You Workout After Getting A Tattoo

I'll probably just workout without a shirt so it doesnt press against it. New tattoo, it takes up the majority of my forearm. I was told not to work out for two weeks to let it heal, but i've got buddies that say they waited 3 days for it to initially heal up then they hit the gym and were fine. Web i'm actually thinking about getting a tattoo on my chest this month and after reading a bunch of comments, i dont think the tattoo will stretch out bad enough to notice a difference.
